Dr. Dagher is Professor of Civil/Structural Engineering at the University of Maine, Bath Iron Works Professor of Structural Engineering, and founding Director of the University's Advanced Structures and Composites Laboratory www.aewc.umaine.edu. Established in 1996, the 70,000 ft2 laboratory is a world leader in the development of cost-effective, high performance hybrid composite materials. The Center bridges the gap between the composites industry and the civil infrastructure industry for applications covering offshore wind energy, construction, boatbuilding, maritime and air cargo shipping, electrical transmission structures and blast mitigation. The Center has 140 full and part-time employees including students from 15 different academic departments. Housed at the University of Maine, the Center has over 200 clients worldwide and has won some of the top awards in composite materials in North America. The Center attracts 95% of its contract research funding from outside the state of Maine. The Center's goals are (1) world leadership in its hybrid composite research programs, (2) outstanding education for its trainees, and (3) supporting and growing industry through technological innovation.

Dr. Dagher has received numerous awards for his work has written over 120 technical publications. He chairs national technical committees in the structural engineering and composite materials fields, has served on the Science and Technology Advisory Board for Maine's Governor, and serves on the Governor-appointed Innovation Economy Advisory Board. He has conducted multi-million dollar Research and Development programs for numerous Federal clients and large industrial clients.

Dr. Dagher leads the DeepCwind Consortium, a DOE program to develop floating offshore wind technologies in the US. Dr. Dagher received his Doctorate degree in structural engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds two Masters Degrees in Structural Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

Note from the conference chair: Dr Dagher has inspired several of my former students with his exceptional understanding of the design process and how it fits what we strive to teach our students. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this unique opportunity to hear hear his messege.
